Mittelfranken (Central Franconia) includes the centre of Bavaria and many well-known historic cities such as Nuremberg and Rothenburg, to name a few.
Stefan Schwoon, 11 October 2001
The coat-of-arms (since 3rd July 1957) combines symbols for the burgrave of Nuremberg (quartered Argent and Sable), for the former Imperial Cities (eagle) and for Franconia as a whole (the "saw-tooth"). Since about 1980 an unofficial flag has been used, without approval by the Ministry of the Interior. This is horizontally divided red-white with the arms in the center. Source: Linder 1997 which is available online at the Der Flaggenkurier website. Further information at the Bezirk Mittelfranken website (only illustration of the arms) and at the CSU Mittelfranken webpage (illustration and description of the arms).
Marcus Schmöger, 27 January 2001
More recently I obtained information from the Bezirk to clarify the question of how the flag actually looks like, especially if it is used as a normal horizontal flag or as a hanging flag (Banner). The flag is only used as hanging flag (250cm × 80cm or 500cm × 150cm), with the arms offcentred to the top. Source: information from the flagmakers Fahnen Eckart.
Marcus Schmöger, 10 May 2001
According to a photo of an actual flag this is indeed a hanging flag, and the arms are significantly offcentred to the top. Source: Dieter Linder, The "Höhere Kommunalverbände" in Germany, oral presentation during the 19th International Congress of Vexillology at York (23-27 July 2001).

Markt Ippesheim (Landkreis Neustadt a.d. Aisch-Bad Windsheim) in Bavaria, some 50 km West of Nürnberg. A red-yellow-red triband with coat-of-arms at the centre.
Jorge Candeias, 8 March 1999
Ippesheim and Ipsheim are two different municipalities, both in Neustadt/Aisch-Bad Windsheim county. Ippesheim has a red-yellow-red flag, Ipsheim a green-white-red one. The information on the flag of Ippesheim (which was presumably the source for the information on FotW) is in this webpage.

This webpage shows a picture of the flag and the coat-of-arms of Markt Ipsheim (Neustadt a.d. Aisch-Bad Windsheim), a county of Mittelfranken district in Bavaria.
