Description of the flag

As specified in the Constitution, the only officiel flag of Nakhichevan is the national flag of Azerbaijan. All other flags reported as the flag of Nakhichevan were unofficial.

The flag in the Constitution

The Constitution of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic was adopted on 12 November1995.

Article 10. Symbols of the state of Nakhichevan

The state symbols of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan are the flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the coat of arms of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Flags reported in the 1990s

As far as is known, Nakhichevan flies no flag of its own. However, during pro-Azeri independence rallies in 1990, a flag was reported in which the green stripe and white star and crescent of the Azeri flag was replaced by yellow and the ratio of the stripes was altered. This appears to have been simply an unofficial variant of the Azeri flag, which nevertheless resulted in quite widespread reports of an "Nakhichevan" flag.
