Inverted pairs
The flags of Costa Rica and Thailand
are exactly alike except that the red and blue are swapped. The two are so far
apart that I assume it must be coincidence....
There are several examples of such pairs like e.g.
There is no deeper reason for this, I think. But if you decide to have a
tricolor with the middle stripe being white or yellow, everything reduces to
combinatorics ... (Not to mention the immense choice you have to create a red
and white horizontal bicolor as it is so popular in central Europe.) In my huble
opinion, more interesting are pairs which were chosen on purpose like
