About the flag

On a gold field, a blue fleur de lys sided by two gold bees, on the cantons two black trumpets bellow blue-silver blue waves, four silver tower mural crown and a white scroll with the words in black "VILA DE OLIVEIRA DE FRADES". Quartered blue over black flag.

"Oliveira de frades" means "friars’s olive tree", though neither can be seen on the arms.

Presentation of Oliveira de Frades

This is a town that belongs to Viseu district has a 146 sq. km area, 12 freguesias (communes) and about 10 500 inhabitants.

Oliveira de Frades is one of the three portuguese municipalities to have exclaves (excluding islands), the others being Vila Real de Santo António (two pieces separated by strip of land bellonging to Castro Marim, both with coast line) and Montijo (the main though smaller part has coast line); no part of Oliveira de Frades has coast line.
