Or, a rising curved axe Sable. Such an axe with a curved handle was traditional in area from 15th century, and was a symbol of power. People were bearing axes even to churches, up till the last Century.

The flag was adopted by the county council on 2 November 1970 and approved by Royal resolution on 19 December 1970.
