Granted on 30 October 1992.
By Royal Resolution of 30 October 1992 the flag of the municipality of Nissedal (county of Telemark) was approved: On yellow three red 'nisse' hats two over one (designer: Halvor Holtskog jr.). The 'nisse' is the equivalent of Father Christmas in Norwegian folklore, and he is usually depicted wearing a red hat of the kind shown on the Nissedal flag. When Nissedal wanted a flag, they decided to select a motive easily associated with the name of the municipality (literally: 'Nisse Valley'), though the name is unrelated to the 'nisse' of the folklore. The official proportions of the flag are unknown, but the image conforms to the heraldic description of the flag.
