This municipality was formed on 1 Jan 1984 by the merger of the old municipalities
of Heinenoord, Maasdam, Mijnsheerenland, Puttershoek,
and Westmaas.
Population (1 Jan 2003): 19.300; area: 54,91 km². Settlements:
Maasdam (seat), Blaaksedijk, Goidschalxoord, Greup, Heinenoord, Kuipersveer,
Mijnsheerenland, Puttershoek, Sint Anthoniepolder, Westmaas.
