Markelo former municipality
Flag: four equally wide vertical stripes of red, white, yellow and green.
Adopted 24 Apr 1962 by municipal resolution. The colors are derived
from the municipal arms. The red and white stripes refer to the rôle
Markelo had in the past: the bishop of Utrecht received homage at the base
of the Markelose Berg. The yellow and green stripes symbolize the means
of existence in Markelo: green fields and the yellow harvest.
Apart from this flag a municipal banner is used with the same basic
pattern, with in the canton the municipal arms.
