Official name: Poppenwier (Dutch: Poppingawier), a village in Boarnsterhim municipality, Fryslân. It used to be in the former municipality of Rauwerderhem, in the so-called "Legean"-region, and the originating place of "Poppingawierster korfballen" - a sport with participation of young and old, on a field with 24 divisions, with two teams of 12, with a closed basket.
The Legean - Lege Geaën (low regions) was a region in the former municipalities of Rauwerderhem and Wymbritseradeel, with the villages Offingawier, Gauw, Sibrandaburen, Terzool, and Poppingawier; along the old Middelzee and the Snekermeer, safeguarded against the Snekermeer by the Groene Dijk (green dike).
Poppenwier: CoA: In red two roses and in base a fleur-de-lis, all in gold;.
Poppenwier was formerly known for the Albada family; now there is still the Albada house. The red field of the Albada's has been adopted for the village CoA, as it also connects to the arms of the former municipality of Rauwerderhem. Furthermore the roses and the fleur-de-lis were from the Albada arms..
