Flagdescription: trije likelange banen fan read-giel-read mei yn de giele baan in griene, út 'e grûn skuorde beam.
That is: Three equally wide vertical bars in RYR with in the yellow bar a green eradicated tree.
The shield-division is striking; it represents several items:
- The strip-parceling of the agricultural fields, characteristic of the Frisian forest-areas (Fryske Wâlden): long strips with tree-fences or brushes to fence off fields.
- The usage of the soil: there is cattlebreeding and agriculture in this area, with cattle in the first place (in Gytsjerk is the main artificial insemination station in Fryslân: de Takomst). The chief of the shield represents agriculture, and the base cattlebreeding.
- The red color symbolizes buildings, and gold sandy soil.
Gytsjerk (Dutch: Giekerk) is a village with c. 1000 inhabitants, who are mainly occupied in agriculture.
