Flag: blue with a white diagonal stripe from hoist-bottom to fly-top of 1/3 flagheight; in hoist top a yellow six-pointed star.
Metslawier (Frisian: Mitselwier) had 1-1-1999 850 inhabitants; it used to be the administrative center of Oostdongeradeel. That explains the diagonal division and the star to the flag hoist is the 'Leading star' as municipal seat.

Metslawier CoA

Description: "In blue a silver left diagonal bar, with in chief a six-pointed golden star and in base a golden sunflower".
The silver left diagonal bar on blue was the coat of arms of Oostdongeradeel. Metslawier was the seat of that former municipality. That is also reflected in the so-called "Leid-Ster" (leading star), symbol of a government seat. It is also present in the flag and arms of Balk, the seat of Gaasterlân-Sleat. It is also the counterpart of Ternaard, the seat of the other former municipality, Westdongeradeel. The sunflower is from the arms of the Ropta family, but represents as well the flower-cultivation in the environment. On the site of the former Ropta-castle is a big flower-farm.
