Nyirád is a village in Veszprém county, Hungary on the
Pápa-Tapolca road. Neighbouring settlements are: Sümeg and
Tapolca towns, Zalahaláp, Sáska, Szoc, Halimba, Kolontár,
Pusztamiske, Káptalanfa and Csabrendek villages. The settlement
has got 1881 inhabitants (Hungarians; 2001 census).
The village was part of Zala county till 1950. On the red field
there is a picture of the Erzsébet királyné (Queen Elisabeth -
Sissy) statue. On the left field of the shield there are three
green hills - relate to the hills of the Bakony Moióuntains, on
a blue field - relates to the great drinking water basis of
Transdanubia is around the village. The gold crucifix relates to
the Christian inhabitants of the village. The white colour
relates to the sunshine.
