The department is named after the river Oise (302 km),
tributary of the Seine.
It was created in 1964 when the former department of
Seine-et-Oise (78) was divided.
This flag is probably no longer in use, since the the logotype of the General Council was recently changed, as it can be seen on the website of the General Council.
