The Madrid Autonomous University (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) is the third main university of Madrid together with Complutense and Politécnica. The flag is officially regulated by the University's statutes, available at its website:
Artículo 5.ºMy translation:
- El escudo de la Universidad responde a la siguiente descripción: Escudo partido, coronado con corona de oro, de ocho flores de lis. En el cuartel derecho, sobre campo de gules, campeará un flamero de oro con tres llamas de plata; en el cuartel izquierdo, sobre campo de plata, campeará un oso rampante sobre un madroño. Irá rodeado por una láurea de hojas de roble y en la parte inferior de la misma llevará una filacteria con la divisa Quid ultra faciam?
- La bandera de la Universidad es de color verde, con su escudo en el centro.
Article 5.The sinister half of the arms shows the Madrid city arms, without the blue bordure.
- The University's coat-of-arms is described thus: Per pale dexter Gules a torch Or showing three flames Argent and sinister Argent a strawberry tree and a bear rampant [all proper]. Crest: a crown bearing eight fleurs-de-lys Or. The escutcheon is surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves, bearing at the bottom a scroll with the motto Quid ultra faciam?.
- The University's flag is green with its arms on the centre.
