Description

The flag of Neumünster is mentioned in Stadler 1964-1971 (writing from memory): in a white field at the hoist the arms, followed by red-white. This sounds similar to the flag of Dithmarschen but too inaccurate to be sure of any particular design.

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

Neumünster was founded around the 'new abbey' in 1130. In 1870 it became a city. The arms are a combination of the modern city (industry) and its history (swan and Nesselblatt). The swan is the symbol of the Stormarn, to which Neumünster belonged. The Nesselblatt (nettle-leaf) is the old symbol of the counts of Holstein. Already in the early 19th century industry developed in the city, mainly leather and textile industries.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971 and Reissmann 1997.
