Flag adopted 07.12.1995, according to Dirk Schönberger's Administrative Divisions of the World website. From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:
The arms were granted on January 18, 1993. The arms are derived from the 13th century arms of the Principality of Rügen, with the addition of a crown. The meaning of the old arms is not known.Literature: Linder and Olzog 1996.
