Description

The market-town Gars uses its historical arms, granted in 1567. The arms show (blazon): Per pale of Argent and Gules, overall a serpent bendwise Vert langued Gules. Traditionally Gars used a flag of white-red (possibly red-white); only recently (in 2001) the municipality decided to adopt a new flag providing more contrast, when used with the arms on it. The flag is white-green and bears the arms. The adoption of the flag was covered in an article available online; however, currently the server seems to have some problems, so the article is not accessible now. Sources:
