Description of the flag

Tremelo (12,500 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Leuven.

The flag is: Argent, a diamond Gules, Father Damian Sable and Or, holding a cross Or, and an escutcheon Argent, three fleur-de-lys Gules. Proportions are 2:3.

Damiaan was the monastic name of Jozef Deveuster, a Flemish missionary who was born in Tremelo on 3 January 1840, and since 1873 missionary among the lepers of Molokai (Hawaii Islands), where he died on 15 April 1889. He was recently canonized, so it should be Saint Damiaan.

The flag was adopted on 1 October 1991.
