Armand du Payrat, CV(R)

Biographical notes:
Upon his retiring from editorship of the Album
[pay00], it is time to give more details on
Armand’s work and personality:
Armand first joined FotW-ml
as a silent member. He noticed that I often quoted his Album
and phoned me to introduce himself. His phone call was not only
courtesy but also a call for advice. Before actively joining the
list, Armand wanted to be sure that he would be accepted as a
regular contributor and not as a marketer pushing his product.
You know the rest of the story…
Armand retired on June 11th, 2003, and decided to stop all his
vexillological activities, including list membership. He has a lot
of other projects to achieve (this is not an obituary!).
However, he did not completely abandon his Album since he was
able to find a successor. A few years ago, the Navy decided that the
Album was old-fashioned and expensive, and would probably have
stopped the production of the Album without Armand’s effort.
Armand not only saved the Album, but he was able to change its
design, with a larger format and better images, an introduction and
bilingual captions. The Navy said
«OK but this is the last time».
Armand again insisted and was able to propose
Olivier Corre as an interim successor,
until a new full-time editor is appointed by the Navy.
