    Biographical notes:

Sad news from Zagreb. One of the most prominent Croatian vexillologist and vexillographer Pero Čimbur died today. On line there is a short note and a photo. I translate the note:

After a short illness journalist and writer Pero Čimbur dies in Zagreb - 4 February 2002.

Born in Knin in 1930, where he finished primary and secondary school. Graduated in litterature on Faculty of Phylosophy of the University of Zagreb. Since 1957 until retirement in 1992 worked on Croatian Radio. Popular as writer for youth, travel-reporter, many times awarded essay writer and screenplayer, especially noted for his book on the issue of sttuter, inspired by his own traumatic expiriance. Practiced applied art, and was especially fond of heraldry, noted for creating numerous coats of arms for communities and cities and trade-marks for various institutions. Participated in several joint art exhibitions, and had exhibitions in Karlovac, Zagreb and Crikvenica.

Awarded by the Croatian Association of Journalists (1961), award for essay in magazine Žena (="Women", 1976), award «Školska knjiga» (school book publishing house; 1983, 1988, 1990) for popularization of sciences and science fiction stories and award of «Vecernje novosti» (newspapers) for series of articles “Sve naše zastave” (="All our flags", 1989). Published several books, among those, Iz putne torbe (From traveler’s bag), Marko na Bemixu (Marko on Bemix), Brod nad kojim nisu letjeli galebovi (Ship that no gull overflew), Lady Machbet IV, Kako sam izlijecio Pppetra (How I cured Pppeter), Zbogom mucanje (Goodby sttutering) and the books on Homeland War E, moj sine (Ay, my son) and Vior.

I may add that his books were issued in several languages, including Esperanto. Apart the mentioned series on flags, he also edited the pocket book on flags Zastave / Flags [cim97]. In the 1970’s or so he issued several books on flags, coats of arms and emblems for youth (and not for youth only) popularizing the topics of symbols. Also, he published a number of articles on coats of arms and flags in various newspapers and magazines in Croatia.

(I guess he is at least a bit guilty of me hooking into this vexi-madness. I am trying to get to these book for some time, but they are removed from regular libraries as “politically-incorrect” containing the “old-regime” symbols. Though, I guess a decent library should have them…)

    Olivier Corre

    Entries (5):

    Biographical notes:

Olivier is teaching history and geography in Brest, and has accepted to manage the corrections of the Album [pay00] during his free time. This is a very good deal for the Navy, which has not to pay him, and mostly a good thing for the Album, which will not be abandoned.

A few years ago, the Navy decided that the Album [pay00] was old-fashioned and expensive, and would probably have stopped the production of the Album without Armand’s effort, but he was able to propose Olivier Corre as an interim successor, until a new full-time editor is appointed by the Navy.

Olivier’s papers in Franciae Vexilla [frv] are far above the (low) average quality of the journal, and I am sure he will do a good job.
