About the flag

This flag was adopted in March 5th 1987, by means of the decree 879, published in March 13th 1987.
Jaume Ollé, 20 Aug 2000, translated by António Martins

The current Entre Ríos provincial flag is locally known as Ramírez’ flag. In the day of Ramírez and Artigas it was known as the Federation Flag, as it stood for a movement, not for a person.

Historical local usage of the federal flag

The flag of the Federal Legue was hoisted for the first time in Entre Ríos by the federalist chieftain Eusebio Hereñu in 1815.03.13, at the Paraná riverside, after defeating General Eustoquio A. Díaz Velez, governor of Santa Fe. His son and successor López Jordan kept on using the flag locally.

Provincial flag of 1833-1853

[Flag of Entre Ríos, 1833]
by Jaume Ollé, 22 Aug 2000

Entre Ríos had no official flag until 1833.12.28, when Governor General Pascual Echague adopted a new provincial flag. This should show the arms approved in 1822, but this was rarely done, usually variants of the arms were used. This flag lasted till 1853, when the Confederation was created. Though it is said that López Jordan still used it in his 1870 revolution.
