In common with many of the local authorities in the previous local government
dispensation in South Africa, the flag used by the South Peninsula Municipality
was an armorial banner derived from the shield of its arms which were registered
with the Bureau of Heraldry in 1998.
South Peninsula became a local authority on 30 May 1996 after local government elections were held in the Cape Metropolitan area. It was incorporated into the City of Cape Town in December 2000.
