1999..... County Flag Project: Presentation of specifics on a Chatham County
Flag project
Martin Spritzer, member of the Chatham County Appearance Commission stated that
the Appearance Commission has been designated as the official coordinator of the
official Chatham County flag design project. He stated that the suggested
procedure may be as follows:
Issue a call for entries that stipulates the purpose of the flag:
1.) To be displayed as official events
2.) To illustrate the heritage of the County
3.) To create an image of Countywide pride
4.) For use on County publications, signage, etc.
Submission requirements:
1.) Illustration of original concept for proposed flag mounted on rigid placard
sized between 18” x 24” and 36” x 60”
2.) No visible indication of authorship (the submission committee will number
entrees and keep a secure listing of submitters by number)
3.) Short written paragraph of explanation to address the proposed design,
submitted on 8 ½” x 11” paper with no indication of authorship
Competition is open to anyone. Multiple entries are acceptable. Judging shall be
conducted as follows:
A primary jury of five with members from:
- The Appearance Commission
- The Arts Council
- The Historic Association
- Chamber of Commerce
- Art teacher
The primary jury will select 12 +/- entries to present to a final jury:
1.) Two County Commissioners
2.) Elected member of primary jury
Awards:
1.) Winner will receive award certificate, full-size flag, $100
2.) 2-5 Honorable Mentions, depending on quality of submissions
3.) Certificate
Schedule:
1.) Organize in fall of 1998/winter of 1999
2.) Advertise in spring 1999
3.) Judge in June 1999
4.) Purchase flags in July 1999
5.) Dedication to be determined, possibly July 4th)"

CHATHAM COUNTY FLAG CONTEST
Chatham County Flag Contest: Consideration of a request to recognize the winner
of the Chatham County Flag contest
Martin Spritzer stated that the Chatham County Appearance Commission sponsored a
flag contest on behalf of the County Board of Commissioners; that for the first
time in two hundred and thirty years, Chatham County will now have an official
flag.
He presented certificates to the participants, honorable mention designees, and
the winner as follows:
