[former flag of Republic, Missouri] located by Mason Kaye

The City of Republic, Missouri, lost a court case (July 9, 1999) on the grounds that the fish symbol (ichthus) suggested that Christianity was the only religion endorsed by the citizens of Republic. The current seal shows only a white third quarter with no device. This image shows the old seal, which in the SW quadrant bore the Christian symbol of a fish on white. The flag of the city is a horizontal tribar, red, white, blue (from the top), with proportions of 1:1.5:1. On the red stripe in white capitals is centered REPUBLIC; the seal is centered on the white stripe; and in white letters centered on the blue stripe is "Growing With The Ozarks", the city motto. See "U.S. Civic Flags in Conflict with the Courts," FLAGS FROM SEA TO SEA (The Proceedings of the XVIII International Congress of Vexillology, Victoria, B.C., Canada, July, 1999): A45-A51.
