Flag Description

The website at http://www.ci.pomona.ca.us shows the seal exists in two formats, the one above and the other on the Chaffey High School Web Site. As it appears on the municipal web site, which I assume is the official version, the seal is in a circular format, with both the external and internal borders being white fimbriated blue. The outer ring is medium blue; at the top are the words 'CITY OF POMONA' in white block lettering in a Banknote font. At the 3 and 9 o'clock positions respectively is a five pointed white star, while at the bottom of the outer ring is the word and date 'INCORPORATED JAN. 1888.' similarly written. The central image is pale blue with a backlighted effect; at the very top is the word 'CALIFORNIA' written in dark blue block lettering with serifs. The centerpiece of this image is the figure of the Roman goddess Pomona; she is dressed in a blue robe and holds a dark staff in her left hand. To her left is a large brown dog, while to her right and immediately behind her is a dark blue cornucopia with its golden fruits spilling out.

The city seals were adopted by the City Council. They are selected to represent the City and citizens that make up this diverse community. The Pomona goddess has been a long tradition since she was first considered in 1887 because Pomona's beginnings were in the citrus groves and agriculture.
