UN interim flag?

I heard the ABC news mention some sort of ceremony in East Timor which included a welcome to a «blue and white UN flag». Something about the way they said it (can’t remember what) suggested that this may not be the UN flag, but something along the lines of Somalia, Cambodia, etc. Has anyone else heard of this?

My best guess is that we’ll have a UN-style interim flag during the next two years, so this problem will probably have a lot of time to be addressed. Perhaps the map of East Timor on light blue, or something of the sort…

In all the images taken in these meetings I’ve seen so far, the only flag visible is the flag of the UN.

The current UN Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) has probably no flag. Its web page displays only the flag of UN Organization.

And only the UN flag is shown in the transfer ceremonies in which military responsibility was transferred from INTERFET to UNTAET. Press reports, if these are to believed, mention that as the INTERFET flag was taken down, the United Nations flag was hoisted.

The FALINTIL militia was reconstituted on 1 February 2001 into the new Defence Force of East Timor. The ceremony for this event was shown on Australian television news (SBS) and showed the FALINTIL flag being lowered and the UN flag being raised. This reconfirms the official use of the UN flag in the territory.
