This is the flag adopted by the Maya Lenca people (2% of the population of the Eastern and insular region of El Salvador) Flag adopted 11/April/1985 Method: public contest Author winer: Ernesto A. Alvarez The white color symbolize peace, one of the supreme goals fro the Maya people. Sky blue, the color of the 13th heaven of the Maya universe, where the heart of the sky exist. Blue stripes pointing toward the 4 corners of the universe, the horizontal one representing Central America land, the vertical one divides in a section of one third, symbolizing the small territory and population of the last Maya Lenca people. At the very center of the intersection, the white circule (the nation) containing the grand pyramid. The universal laurels embraicing the grand pyramid, the three levels symbolize the past as a strong fundation, the present and the futura towards the highest aspirations, above the Royal Crown of The Royal Maya Symbol.

The author of this flag was murdered in Sep-1995, when death squads attempted to kill His Excellency, Ernesto acted as human shield. These days the flag is becoming a well known symbol of neutrality, peace and tolerance. It is believed that by 2012 it is going to be risen within the 6 countries of Central America, those countries hosting Maya people.
