The emblem of the SSR was introduced 23 March 1937
(according to Hesmer [hes92])
by the then
constitution (Art. 115). It was replaced by the
current emblem on 14 January 1994.

version of the emblem, taken from an official soviet handbook
publ. 1980 (SSSR — Administrativno-territorialhnoe Delenie Soûznyq
Respublik).
