The flag and arms of Žetale are prescribed by Decision Odlok o istovetnostih simbolih Občine Žetale, adopted on 13 September 2000 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 88/2000.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
The flag is rectangular, in ratio 2:5, vertically divided green-yellow-green, the yellow stripe forming a square containing the chestnut from the coat of arms. There is no data on possible vertical hoisting. Probably the chestnut size is determined by the Decision to be between 2/3 and 8/10 of the hoist size.

Coat of arms of Žetale - Image by Željko Heimer, 21 October 2002
The coat of arms of Žetale is divided per fess embattled, on the middle embattlement stands into the green field St. Michael's flaming sword topped with scales and in base a chestnut proper with two leaves.

Chestnut tree (Castaneus sativa) belongs to the family Fagaceae, along with oaks and beeches. Therefore, its leaves are not opposite but alternate. I suppose the chestnut tree leaves were made opposite for the sake of symmetry of the coat of arms and flag design.
