The municipality of Ljubno was formed in 1995, seceding from Mozirje. The town is often referrd to as Ljubno ob Savinji. It was granted civic rights in 1459 by the nearby Benedictine monastery; these rights were confirmed in 1565 and a few times more.

The flag and coat of arms of Ljubno are prescribed by Decision Odlok o grbu, zastavi in prazniku Občine Ljubno, adopted on 23 November 1995 and published in the local official gazette Uradno glasilo Zgornjesavinjskih občin, 6/95, 7 December 1995, with effect on 22 December 1995.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
The flag is a rectangular, in ratio 2:5, horizontally divided blue-yellow-blue with a square field of blue overall in the middle, therefore, dividing the yellow stripe in two parts, containing the eight-pointed yellow star from the coat of arms.
The colour specifications are given by Stanič [stjO5] as:

Coat of arms of Ljubno - Image by Željko Heimer, 26 February 2006
The coat of arms of Ljubno is:
Azure a mullet of eight or.
Stanič says that Emperor Frederic III confirmed the civic rights of Ljubno and granted a coat of arms to the town in 1470. It was a golden star on a blue shield. Pichegger shows an eight-pointed faceted star very much like the one in the current coat of arms. Stanič shows also the municipal seal of 1936, made of a six-pointed star in an oval shield.
