Presentation of Gornja Radgona

Gornja Radgona had the status of community before the 1990s. It is a town on the eastern end of the border with Austria. On the other side of the border there is an Austrian city called Bad Radkersburg, which is presumably "Lower Radgona" ("Gornja" means "Upper").

Municipal flag of Gornja Radgona

In his book Tisočletna govorica zastav [gog02], Roger Gogala shows the flag and arms of Gornja Radgona. The flag is in proportion 1:2, horizontally divided yellow-green with a white fimbriation, whose width is said by Gogala to be 2/100 of the flag width. The municipal coat of arms is set in the hoist half of the flag.
The same flag is shown by Stanič [stj05], who gives the colour specifications as:

  • Yellow: HKS 2K
  • Green: HKS 54K
  • Blue: HKS 44K
  • Red: HKS 13K

The coat of arms of Gornja Radgona is prescribed by Decision Odlok o uporabi grba Občine Gornja Radgona, adopted on 1 August 1996, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije 96/51 on 13 November 1996.
The Decision does neither provide the description nor images of the coat of arms. It refers to the statutes of the municipality Statut Občine Gornja Radgona, adopted on 28 September 1995 and published in Uradni list Republike Slovenije 60/95.

The coat of arms, as shown by Gogala (op. cit.), is divided horizontally, with a larger upper part, which is again divided per bend sinister, therefore giving three fields, from top to bottom):

1. Or a sun of the same lined sable; 2. argent, a grape or; 3. argent, in base five bars wavy azure next to each other.

As shown by Zalokar [zal90], the former coat of arms of Gornja Radgona was similar to the current one, but had a red five-pointed star in the middle and a red sun.
