The municipality of Tišina was formed in 1998 by parts of the municipality of Cankova-Tisina, which had itself been formed in 1995 by parts of the municipality of Murska Sobota.

The flag and arms of Tišina are prescribed by Decision Odlok o istovetnostnih simbolih Občine Tišina, adopted on 24 November 2000 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 2/2001.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
The flag is rectangular, in ratio 2:5, horizontally divided yellow-green-yellow, with the green central stripe broken off in the middle to form a square yellow field containing the three green chestnut leaves from the coat of arms.
Stanič [stj05] gives the colour specifications, which are not part of the Decision, as: Dark yellow, Pantone 116; and Green, Pantone 355.
