About the flag

Swedish municipalities which have heraldic arms (which almost all of them have) also by default have a flag which is a square banner of those arms. The flag of Norrtälje is proudly flying in many places in the town.

he charge of these arms goes back to what was written in the royal letter of privilege of the year 1622. The anchor alludes to the town as a town of shipping. That the anchor is reversed (turned upside down) is probably only made to make a distinction between the arms of Norrtälje and other similar arms, but it can also be noted that anchors has sometimes been hanging like this on the outside of ships.
