Since 1946, it has hoisted a white cloth with the emblem in the middle. The inscriptions can be written in the languages of the member country. (Something similar happens with the formerly communist International Union of Students (IUS), which bears its emblem on a blue field.

A white flag with the WFDY symbol in center. The symbol was a black/yellow globe with three white, yellow and black faces [facing the fly], symbolizing the youth of the world, surrounded by the words «Youth unite! For a lasting peace!» [(versions existed for different languages), in yellow lettering on a green circle], underneath the words «World Federation of Democratic Youth» [black lettering on a wide yellow scroll].

60th anniversary variation

I was present at the World Federation of Democratic Youth’s 60th anniversary celebration in London this weekend, where I saw a new flag of theirs. It was basically the same as that shown above but with the exception that in the motto on the group’s design, there was a spelling mistake: it read «YOYTH UNITE!…» as opposed to «YOUTH UNITE!…» Also, underneath the design were the words «World Federation of Democratic Youth» in (I think) Times New Roman in green, and underneath that in black in a slightly smaller typeface was written (as far as I remember) «60 Years in Service of World Youth». I did try to get my hands on one of the flags, but couldn’t. I thought that the spelling mistake was rather quaint…

The Freie Deutsche Jugend (Free German Youth) participated since 1948 members in this organization. Therefore, the logo was modified for the GDR. In all German-language countries, it carries the inscription «Jugend vereinige Dich! Vorwärts für dauerhaften Frieden! — Weltbund der Demokratischen Jugend».

At international youth events, such as the international youth festival in Berlin 1973, the WFDY flag (in its German language version) was one of the most commonly seen flags.
