About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a background quarterly (meaning town rank) of blue and yellow. The coat of arms is azure, a bull chargeant (?) or, in chief a grapole of grapes, proper, between two bundles of three wheat ears or each. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE SALVATERRA DE MAGOS".
António Martins, 03 Aug 1999

The coat of arms seems to celebrate the local argriculture and pecuary successes, with no reference to the quite inspiring toponym: something like "Saved-town of Sorcerors"…
