The flag at
pueblos-de-puertorico.com site (defunct) looks too simple - at Lexjuris
site the same flag seems to have the coat of arms in the middle,
although the description of the flag doesn't mention it there.
Perhaps the flag can be used with and without Coat
of Arms. Coamo is in central Puerto Rico, some 50 km east of
Ponce. Founded 1579; there are 35,000 inh. . Flag and CoA were
adopted 5 August 1969

Coamo - Its flag has three horizontal stripes: red the upper
one, yellow in the center, and black the lower one. It should fly
with the black stripe down.May or may not have the shield and its
proportions are two parts high by three parts long.
Blas Delgado Ortiz, 9 April 2001
The Coat of Arms is not an official part of the flag.
The official flag is only red, gold and black in equal
proportions and in that order top to bottom.
N. Ocasio (from Coamo), 28 December 2002
However, at <coamo.net>
the flag is with Coat of Arms. Some local
info: The name "San Blas Illescas de Coamo" is made of
three parts. "San Blas" is the patron saint of the
town, according to Catholic tradition. "Illescas" is
the Spanish town the founders came from (nowadays in Toledo
province, Castile-La Mancha, Spain). "Coamo" is an
indigenous word that means "valley". The coat of arms
is characterized by its colors (red, black, yellow and white) and
several symbols Coamo's history. The flag takes its colors from
the coat of arms.

The flag of Coamo Puerto Rico does not use the shield in the
flag. This is the official page of Coamo and here the flag
is without the shield: <www.coamo.puertorico.pr>.

After we had a report by Nelson L. Roman that "The flag
of Coamo Puerto Rico does not use the shield in the flag",
here comes <www.prfrogui.com>
with the shield on the flag. It says: "La bandera al igual

I know this site and as far as I know, the information there
is incorrect.

The Coat of Arms is divided into four parts. The superior left
and the inferior right have a red background with a gold
Episcopal hat each. These parts of the Coat of Arms represent the
old seat of San Blas de Illescas. The horse and the bull
represent the cattle wealth of the population. The gold color
that serves as background in contrast with the black color,
recalls the yellowish reddish tone of the fields of Coamo during
the droughts. The heavy border of the Coat of Arms contains the
following figures: two flames; three bell towers with gold bells
outlined in red; two red crosses with arms ending in three
petals; and a circle with a surface divided by horizontal blue
and silver-plated stripes. The bell towers represent the three
primitive churches of Coamo. The flames allude to the celebration
of the Candelaria, the crosses allude to the Spanish colonizer
Crist?bal de Illescas, and the circle represents a well for the
Thermal Baths of Coamo. The crown has four towers.
