The Royal resolution dated 27 March 1987 states:

The decision by the Municipal Council of Kvalsund dated 30 September 1986 about the municipality's arms and flag is approved.

The arms of Kvalsund municipality will be: In blue three silver salmons arranged in 'trepass' [I use the original Norwegian word, as I do notknow the English heraldic term for this particular way of arranging charges] with their heads in centre.

The flag of Kvalsund municipality will be: In blue three white salmon arranged in 'trepass' with their heads in centre.

The salmon represents fishery in various forms: As a traditional way of living and source of income, as modern fish farming, and as a recreational activity. I used proportions 8:11 (national flag proportions) for my drawing of the flag of Kvalsund.
