About the flag

Sund municipality lies in Hordaland county.

When deciding to have the unapproved emblem used since 1966 replaced with officially approved arms and flag, Sund considered two gold oars on blue, a red crab on white, and a blue lighthouse on white. Opinions were raised to the effect that the municipality should adopt a modern logo instead of arms, but the concern that the municipality ought to adopt arms also giving it the right to fly a flag overruled this point of view. The lighthouse design prevailed, having served also in the more detailed emblem it replaced and thus being well known in the community. As for the symbolism, the lighthouse reflects the community's close ties to the sea, and the white colour represents the light emitted from the lighthouse. Even Jarl Skoglund made the design and official approval was granted 22 July 1988.
