On red a yellow branch of holly. That is the flag of the municipality of Stord (in the county of Hordaland). Holly (Ilex Aquiofolium), with its shiny evergreen leaves and red berries, is much used for Christmas decorations, in Norway as elsewhere. It is called Christ's Thorn in Norwegian (though that name refers to a different plant in English). The flag of Stord was approved by Royal Resolution of 19 June 1987. The designer was Truls Nygaard. No official proportions have been set. The image conforms to the heraldic description of the flag.
