Rescue brigade flag

In the Netherlands, the private reddingsbrigades (redding=rescue) use a special flag when a child is missing, or an unknown child is found: rectangular white with a black or blue question mark.

Green Rescue brigade flag

[Green Rescue brigade flag] by Gerard van der Vaart, 2 Nov 2001

In the Netherlands beach flags have the same shape, colour and meaning as in Spain: green, yellow and red. Some (or many?) brigades never use the green flag to prevent the bathing/swimming guests from having a false sense of safety. This was confirmed to me by the secretary of the Ouddorp reddingsbrigade (mun. Goedereede, prov. Zuid-Holland). They can't keep an eye on every spot of "their" 17 km beach, moreover, tidal (under) currents are always deceitful in this part of the North Sea.
