Lexmond former municipality

Lexmond is a former municipality in Zuid-Holland province. On 1 Jan 1986 it became part of Zederik municipality.
It had 2.100 inhabitants in the settlements Lexmond (seat), Achthoven, Kortenhoeven, Lakerveld, and Schutterseiland. The "Achthovense Uiterwaarden" (forelands) along the "Oude Zederik" were a protected nature reserve.
Flag: in blue at the separation of hoist and fly a yellow pig's head, below which two red laurelbranches in saltire; along top, fly and bottom a green-yellow border, resp of 3/20 and 1/20 flagheight.
Explanation: The yellow pig's head on blue is the image of the present municipal arms. In older versions of the arms a green pyre with red flames is visible. For the pyre the red laurelbranches have been used.
Green has been used to represent water. Parallel to each other flow the Lek and Merwedekanaal near Lexmond, the long borders. Perpendicular to both was the small river Laak, represented by the short border. The Laak flowed in Lexmond into the Lek, hence "Laaksmond" - later "Leksmond", "Lexmond". Blue and green have been separated by yellow for esthetic
reasons.
The flag was adopted 27 Jan 1971 after a design by J.F. van Heyningen, with later addition of the laurelbranches.
