Kijkduin is a bathing resort and a city-ward near Loosduinen, in southwest 's Gravenhage (the Hague), Zuid-Holland province. Not to be confused with the high dune near Den Helder (Noord-Holland), where we all watched how Michiel A. de Ruyter clobbered the English and French fleets in 1673.
According to research by "Kijkduinse kringen" Kijkduin's history is older than the history of the Hague, and for a long time has been a separate village. There was even a union with Poeldijk, Ter Heyde, and Monster-Ambacht, although Kijkduin was virtually uninhabited. In 1811 Kijkduin was added to Loosduinen, and in 1923 to the Hague.
The designer Hans van Lieshout has drawn a CoA which shows on a blue field three golden connected dunes, with behind the third dune the head of a stork, beaked red. In base two wavy stripes of blue and silver.
The flag is an exact representation of the arms. Kijkduin means: watch dune - the stork (of the CoA of 's Gravenhage) is watching the dune!
The question is whether the municipal council of the Hague is willing to approve it - if only to reduce the clattering of arms about the CoA and flag of Scheveningen.
