The shield is topped by a marquess' crown of 5 leaves. Dirk van Sassenem,
who owed his possessions in 1322 to Count Willem III of Holland and Zeeland.
had a CoA with four oblique red bars on gold. This banner (original fieldsign
of the prince and some high noblemen) has become the CoA of Sassenheim.
Flagdescription: two equally wide horizontal stripes of yellow and red.
This flag was not official, but was used by the citizens and the municipal
council. The colors were derived from the municipal arms.
