Wijdemeren municipality
Population (1 Jan 2004): 23.346; area: 77,00 km²; settlements: 's-Graveland
(seat), Ankeveen, Boomhoek, Breukeleveen, Kortenhoef, Muyeveld, Nederhorst
den Berg, Nieuw-Loosdrecht, Oud-Loosdrecht.
On 1 Jan 2002 the former municipalities of ’s-Graveland,
Nederhorst
den Berg and Loosdrecht merged to form
the new municipality of Wijdemeren.
On 4 Oct 2003 the Mayor, mr. Bijl, inaugurated the new logo, which
will adorn all publications of Wijdemeren. It was designed by T. Burgerdijk
of ACI Ontwerpstudio in Amsterdam. He was inspired by the beautiful landscape
of Wijdemeren, mainly the Loosdrechtse Plassen. The name "Wijdemeren" was
executed in blue. With a wink to the French impressionist Monet the
designer chose a green painter's pallette to symbolize the leaves of a
waterlily. There are three pallettes for the three former municipalities.
At present the municipality of Wijdemeren does not have a Coat of Arms.
