Oeffelt former municipality

Oeffelt is a former municipality in Noord-Brabant province, since 1994 part of Boxmeer.
Flag: Two stripes yellow - blue, the partition at least three times wavy, and over all at the hoist in the direction of the fly an opened red pair of sheep-shears.
adopted 19 Dec 1975; design: Stichting Banistiek en Heraldiek.

Yellow and blue are derived from the municipal arms. Red and yellow from the arms of Oeffelt en Gennep. Yellow and red represent also the colors of the guild "Salvator Mundi".
The wavy partition symbolizes the Maas river. The SBH notes that this is misrepresented in the municipal arms by a faintly bent fess.
Source: Vexilla Nostra 121 (1982).

Oeffelt is along the Maas river, opposite Gennep.
Nickname: "Papvrééters" - porridge eaters, used by Boxmeerders, because Oeffelters nicknamed the Boxmeerders "Keischieters" (rock-shooters).
Porridge refers to the main occupation: cattle-breeding
