Schijndel municipality

Population (1 Jan 2003): 23.388; area: 41,56 km²; Settlements: Schijndel (seat), Wijbosch.
From 8 Apr 1960 till 18 Jul 1991 the municipal flag consisted of three equally wide horizontal stripes green - yellow - black. The three colors were from the municipal arms. Green for the oak, over 600 years the symbol of law in Schijndel. Yellow and black were derived from the arms of the family Van der Leck (three crescents on a golden field). This family owned the "Lordship of Schijndel" in the period 1398-1454.
The Noord-Brabantse commissie voor Wapen- en Vlaggenkunde objected to this flag: it said nothing and it was advisable to emphasize the symbols of the CoA. Yellow for the patron saint Servatius, green for the oak tree, white for the municipality's most characteristic field in the CoA. A black lying crescent on the yellow was to accentuate all this.
The High Council of Nobility deviated a bit from that report and advised the following flag: three equally wide horizontal stripes of yellow - green - white, with in the canton a black crescent with a height of 1/4 flagheight.
