Population (1 Jan 2003): 11.199; area: 81,92 km². Settlements: Zelhem (seat), De Meene, Halle, Halle-Heide, Halle-Nijman, Heidenhoek, Heurne (part), Oosterwijk, Velswijk, Wassinkbrink, Winkelshoek, Wittebrink.
Zelhem is in souteast Gelderland. C. 800 the missionary Ludger founded a chapel here. The name was first used in 1152 as 'Selenum' (place of peace - a very appropriate name IMO)
Flag adopted 25 Aug 1938 by municipal resolution.
Description: two equally wide horizontal stripes of yellow and blue, with the municipal arms in the canton.
This is the flag of Gelderland province in 1938, with the arms in the canton - the parading flag at the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's 40 year reigning celebration in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.
