Wehl municipality

Population (1 Jan 2003): 6.771; area: 23,48 km². Settlements: Wehl (seat), Nieuw-Wehl.
Wehl is in east Gelderland, c. 30 km east of Arnhem. It was German until 1816 as part od the 'Lijmers' region, hotly contested for ages.
Flag: two equally wide horizontal stripes of yellow and blue, with a chevron at the hoist countergcharged, reaching half of flaglength.
Adopted 16 Apr 1962 by municipal resolution. The design of the flag was made (for free) by Kl. Sierksma of Groningen, and in the design he looked at the municipal arms. The colors blue and yellow are identical to the municipal arms, while the chevron is also present on the CoA. Because quite a few Dutch municipalities had flags with bicolors of yellow and blue Mr. Sierksma used the chevron at the hoist to make it characteristic for Wehl. Which it is!
