Granted 15 Dec 1978.

The arms are derived form the arms of the counts of Bentheim (nowadays in Germany). The counts owned in the 12th-14th century a castle and grounds in Geldermalsen. Even though the village was owned by other families ever since, the arms remained the Bentheim arms.
After the merger between Gelderlmalsen and three neighbouring municipalities symbols were added to the arms: a horse for Deil and a column for Buurmalsen. In addition a fleur-de-lis was added to represent two other villages in the municipality; Meteren and Rumpt. The top of the shield was made gold, similarly as in the arms of Beesd.
