Druten municipality

Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 17.461; area: 42,50 km². Settlements: Druten (seat), Afferden, Deest, Horssen, Puiflijk.
Afferden, Deest and Puiflijk were added to Druten in 1818; Horssen in 1984.
Druten lies some kilometers west of Nijmegen in the riverlandscape of Waal and Maas. Tobacco was grown here.
The flag was adopted 23 Feb1984; it is derived from the municipal CoA; the green stripe seems to symbolize the fertile stroke of land between the big rivers Maas and Waal. The lion is derived from the provincial CoA of Gelderland.
